Where to watch it officially
Rockstar Games has published two official Grand Theft Auto VI videos to date. Trailer 1 went live on 4 December 2023, a day earlier than planned after it leaked; Trailer 2 followed on 6 May 2025. Both are hosted on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel and mirrored by the publisher's own Newswire. Anything else presented as new footage is a re-cut, a re-upload or a fake unless it appears on those two sources first.
| Trailer | Publication date | Runtime | What it shows | Official channel | Last checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trailer 1 | 4 Dec 2023 | 1:31 | Vice City street scenes, Lucia introduced, no gameplay HUD | Rockstar Games YouTube; Rockstar Newswire | 20 Jan 2026 |
| Trailer 2 | 6 May 2025 | about 2:30 | Jason and Lucia together, wider Leonida, in-engine cutscenes | Rockstar Games YouTube; Rockstar Newswire | 20 Jan 2026 |
| Fan re-cuts and "leak" compilations | undated, posted without notice | varies | re-edited shots from the two official videos | not official — labelled as fan edits | 20 Jan 2026 |
- Trailer 1 (4 December 2023, 1:31) — first full look at Vice City, Lucia leaving prison, beach and nightclub shots.
- Trailer 2 (6 May 2025, about 2:30) — Jason and Lucia as a pair, more of Leonida, more spoken dialogue.
- Neither video carries a HUD, mission footage, a menu screen or a frame of user-controlled play.
- Official copies live on the Rockstar Games YouTube channel, the Rockstar Newswire post, and the embedded player on rockstargames.com.
- Re-uploads keep the runtime but add reaction overlays, channel watermarks or pitched-down audio; a clip labelled "leak" that is not on the Newswire is unverified.
What the trailers confirm about the game
Setting: Vice City and the state of Leonida
Protagonists and story setup
What is shown but not confirmed
Across both videos the confirmed material is narrow and specific. The game takes place in Vice City, inside the fictional state of Leonida, and Trailer 2 shows the map reaching well past the city into highways, swamp and small-town streets. The leads are Lucia and Jason, presented as a co-operating pair. Rockstar has also stated the launch platforms, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No year is given on screen, and no mechanic has been demonstrated.
| Detail on screen | Status |
|---|---|
| Vice City, state of Leonida | Confirmed in text and on-screen signage |
| Lucia and Jason as dual leads | Confirmed; both appear in Trailer 2 |
| Launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S | Confirmed by Rockstar's own announcement |
| Time period and era | Shown but not stated — treat as unconfirmed |
| Crowd density, traffic volume, AI behaviour | Cinematic staging, not a performance claim |
| GTA 6 Online mode, monetisation, battle pass | Not announced — no official statement exists |
| Release date | Moved from 2025 to 26 May 2026; check the Newswire before quoting it |
Does the trailer show real gameplay?
No. Both videos are cinematic and in-engine cutscenes. Rockstar has not released a gameplay walkthrough, so any clip claiming to be live play is either edited or fabricated.
Is Vice City the whole map?
No. Leonida is the state and Vice City is its largest city. Trailer 2 shows swamp, highway and small-town locations outside the urban core.
How to tell an official video from a fake
Channel and account checks
Video and audio tells
Screenshot forensics for stills
Fake GTA 6 footage spreads fastest in the hours after a real announcement, when search results are flooded and thumbnails are easy to spoof. The test is administrative before it is technical: a genuine video exists on the Rockstar Games channel and has a matching post on the Newswire. If you cannot find both, you are looking at a re-upload, a reaction clip or a fabrication, regardless of how convincing the first ten seconds look.
| Check | Genuine upload | Fake or re-upload |
|---|---|---|
| Channel | Rockstar Games, verified badge, uploads dated in sequence | lookalike name, no badge, upload date older than the announcement |
| Frame rate and audio | consistent 30 or 60 fps, mixed dialogue and music | stutter, pitched-down music to dodge copyright matching, added voice-over |
| Screenshots | full 16:9 frame, no overlay, matches the trailer colour grade | cropped, watermarked with a channel logo, colours pushed off-model |
| Timing | appears on the Newswire first | claims "leaked gameplay" before any publisher post exists |
- Open the Rockstar Newswire and search the title before you watch anything.
- Check the channel name letter by letter; lookalikes swap a single character.
- Confirm the video is 16:9 with no reaction overlay, watermark or subtitle bar.
- Listen for playback speed: re-uploads are often slowed to avoid content matching.
- For stills, run a reverse image search and compare the crop against the original trailer frame.
Announcement history in order
Dated entries with sources
Delays and their announcements
What the next update is likely to cover
Every official GTA 6 announcement is logged here in the order it happened, with the date it was published and the tier of source behind it. First-party means Rockstar Newswire or a Rockstar-owned social channel. Second-party means a platform holder listing, such as a PlayStation or Xbox store page. Nothing reaches this list without one of the two, and each entry is cross-checked against the release-date history page so the two never disagree.
| Date | What changed | Source tier |
|---|---|---|
| Dec 2023 | Trailer 1 published; 2025 window named | First-party (Newswire) |
| May 2025 | Trailer 2 published; gameplay framing shown | First-party (Newswire) |
| May 2025 | Release moved to May 26, 2026 | First-party (Newswire) |
| Nov 2025 | Second delay to November 19, 2026 | First-party (Newswire) |
- Trailer 1 (December 2023) named a 2025 window with no month, and the first delay notice arrived 17 months later, alongside Trailer 2.
- The May 2025 move to May 26, 2026 was published the same day Trailer 2 went live, as one combined post rather than a separate statement.
- The November 2025 shift to November 19, 2026 carried roughly 12 months of notice — the longest lead time on any date change so far.
- No announcement has been made by a regional Rockstar account before the Newswire post, so treat regional posts as duplicates, not news.
What the next update is likely to cover follows Rockstar's usual launch sequence: pre-load dates and download size first, then online mode details, then a PC hardware note if a PC version is confirmed. Going by the gaps between previous posts, a first-party update is more likely within two weeks of a dated pre-order window opening than at any random point in the calendar.
Trailer questions
Is the trailer real gameplay?
Do the trailers show the online mode?
How often is this page updated?
Questions about the trailers come down to one distinction most aggregator posts blur: what was rendered inside the game engine versus what a person actually played. Rockstar's published videos sit in the first category — cinematics built in the engine, with camera framing chosen for the edit. That is not the same as uninterrupted hands-on footage, and every entry on this page says which one it is rather than implying otherwise.
| Signal | In-engine cinematic | Hands-on gameplay |
|---|---|---|
| Camera control | Chosen for the edit | Player-driven |
| HUD visible | Usually hidden | Normally on screen |
| Frame drops | Cleaned in post | Present if they happened |
| Source label | "Captured in-engine" | Labeled hands-on or raw |
Is the trailer real gameplay?
Partly. Trailer 2 was assembled inside the game engine, so its assets and lighting are genuine, but the camera moves and cuts were directed for the video. It is not a continuous recording of someone holding a controller.
Do the trailers show the online mode?
No. Every official video so far covers the single-player campaign and its two leads. Rockstar has not shown a separate online component, so any "GTA 6 Online" footage you find is either fan-made or mislabeled.
How often is this page updated?
After every first-party post, and re-verified at least once every 14 days even when nothing changes. The "Last checked" date under the title always matches the most recent verification, not the most recent announcement.
What is the difference between an in-engine cinematic and hands-on gameplay?
An in-engine cinematic renders inside the game but plays a fixed sequence. Hands-on gameplay is a person making live decisions, so it shows loading pauses, failed inputs and HUD behaviour. Only the second tells you how the game actually handles.
Follow the updates
This site does not host, embed or mirror any third-party player, leaked build or re-uploaded trailer. Every video referenced here is linked back to the Rockstar Newswire post or the platform channel that first published it, so you watch the official file at the official source. If a page offers a downloadable "copy" of a trailer or an offline installer for the game, that file is not ours, is not endorsed here, and matches the pattern the safety checklist warns about.
- Release-date history — every window that changed and the notice each delay received, kept in sync with the table above.
- How we verify — what Confirmed, Unconfirmed and Ruled out mean, and which sources qualify for each label.
- Safety checklist — fake APKs, mirrored leaked builds, phishing store pages and unlicensed browser games.
- Can you play GTA 6 online today — the current dated answer plus the legal options that already exist.
- Editions and contents — what ships in each version and what the pre-order windows are expected to look like.
Two things on this page change and nothing else: the dated entries in the announcement history and the "Last checked" stamp under the title. A new trailer, a delay or a pre-order date updates both within 24 hours, and any entry older than 90 days is re-verified against the original post rather than left standing.
